Like the title of the topic suggests, I'm curious to know, what is your favorite book? who is your all time favorite author? and the genre of literature you prefer.

I read so many different things that I'm not sure I have a favourite genre. My favourite author I think would be Wilbur Smith, and my Favourite book would be Eagle in the sky by the same author.

This blerb doesn't do justice, but here you are.

A thriller which combines both combat action and romance to tell the story of a rich
jet fighter pilot, who becomes involved in Israel's war for national survival, after
he falls in love with a beautiful Israeli writer.

in short, the writer, is blinded and runs away not wanting to see him again, until he is shot down in his aircraft, and massively disfigred. It's an awesome book culminating in her having an opporation to regain her sight. The first thing she sees is the monster like face of her husband.

and much as it hurts me to do this, I must admit that the book made me cry. lol

I read so much I can't possibly name just one favorite book. I like several authors, but I guess I would have to say Nora Roberts is my favorite. My two favorite genres are romance and suspense, and she manages to work suspense into many of her romances, although she can write straight romance too. I also like straight suspense or detective books. Sorry I can't be more specific, but I think anyone who has just one favorite author or genre is restricting themselves.

I have neither a favorite author nor genre; I agree with Becky in that regard. As for favorite book...

Hinton, S. E. The outsiders.

I find it bizarre that people can say this, I possibly only avoid 2 genres, fantasy and science fiction, I have some 1100 books here by 140 different authors, yet I still believe I can have a favourite. Also when there are far more books than either authors or genres, how is it possible for you people to have a favourite book, but not author?

Favorite book: Anne of Green Gables.
Favorite author: Lucy Montgomery.
Favorite genre: classic literature.

This however, does not mean I don't read other genres and books written by other authors.

I love to read, and when I have time to sit down and read a book, I would have to say it is Stephen King. I don't have one particularly fayvoret book I could name. I also like to read Nora Roberts, and Dean Koontz. So it is really a wide veriaty. It just depends on what my mood is.

I agree with Kev. There are far more books circulating in the world than the number of authors and genres. So for me, it's easier to pinpoint a favorite author/genre. Moreover, I don't see how I'm restricting myself by having a particular preference, since it does not imply that my reading is limited to just - say, books written by Lucy Montgomery.

I have to disagree that concentrating on just one or 2 genres is restricting yourself. before I got hooked on fantasy, I read other genres maybe with the exception of horror. Here are several I wouldn't
mind reading again and again in no particular order:
Wheel of time by Robert Jordan
Memory Sorrow and Thorn trilogy by Tad Williams
Night's Dawn trilogy by Peter F Hamilton
The Ice and Fire series by George R. Martin
Soul Flame by Barbara Wood
All H. Rider Haggard books

The Harry Potter series for definite and J.K. Rowling for definite, hense my Zone user name. I have all six of the H P books so far, two on cassette, four on CD and all four films released so far, on both DVD and video. Incidentally, the Goblet Of Fire DVD has audio description, but you may need help from a sighted person to locate it on the DVD.

My favourite book is the long Road Home by Danielle Steel. I read a lot of Danielle Steel's books. I also like crime authors such as Patricia Cornwell, Michael Connolly and Ian Rankin.

Though I'm not a christian, I have to say the Bible is my favorite book because a long time ago a friend taught me how to read and write by using the Bible as a guide. Not only did using the Bible teach me how to read but it also helped me learn why people take the time to write books. I'm not very educated or well-read but if there's a book that sparks my interest, then I'll most likely make an effort to understand what the author is trying to communicate. As for genres, well I guess philosophy would have to be my favorite because I enjoy learning about the way people have thought throughout the centuries. Most civilizations have been influenced by some prominent thinker; their religion, ethics, politics, etc have all been introduced by an individual and I've always been intrigued by how powerful one person's words or thoughts can be not only during his/her lifetime but also after their death. Even though I don't understand most of what I read, I'm still grateful for the little bits of learning I acquire.

I've read so many books it's hard to pinpoint one in particular, though I guess right off the top of my head, I'd say the miracle worker, the story ofannie sulivan when she came to teach Helen Keller. I have a lot of favorite authors, but I can't name any particular book that was my favorite. Unfortunately, with the exception of Stephen Kin and Dean Koontz, most of my favorite authors are dead, Phyllis A Whitney, Victoria Holt, Madelein Brent, Marion Babson, Taylor Caldwell, Dorothy Eden, and that's all I can think of at the moment. My favorite genres are, horror, suspense, ghost stories, and gothics, though sadly, gothics are now pretty much extinct, or at least gothics I like to read. Oh and speaking of gothics, one of my favorite authors is V C andrews. Her novels are pretty much always cliff hangers, the kind that leave you hanging by a thread and on the edge of your seat. She's as close as I can come nowadays to reading gothic novels.

Yeah, My favorite author is dead as well, but she does have an heir and followers, though. The heir is Lenard Peikoff and the most famous follower is Allan Greenspand. (I might add, the economy situation isn’t greenspands’s fault.)

My favorite books are Atlas Shrugged and The Voice Of Reason. My favorite author is Ayn Rand, I believe her original name is Ellisa and I don’t know her original last name. My favorite genre is philosophical fiction, and I love the rational and intellectual quality it has.
